The natural sweetness of the sweet potato matches perfectly with the sweet date paste filling. The only refined sweetener in this recipe is in the glaze which can be left out (or doubled!) to suit your needs or taste. I think the amount in this recipe is perfect. It adds some of the extra sweetness we associate with cinnamon buns without overpowering the wonderful flavours in the biscuits themselves.
If you are going to make these in advance for a special occasion, then glaze just before serving as the glaze will disappear into the biscuits as it soaks in. Freeze them unglazed as well.
